Howdy!
My name is Kate Godfrey, and I am currently a senior at Texas A&M University. I attended Houston Baptist University and Blinn College prior to attending TAMU. I am pursuing a degree in Meteorology with minors in both Chemistry and Mathematics. I graduate this December and hope to obtain a position in an exciting and challenging environment that allows me to expand and build on the knowledge I have gained while earning my degree. I am particularly interested in the chemical industry. I have created this E-folio to share some of my accomplishments and experiences that I feel have well-equipped me for future job opportunities. Despite the fact I don't have much professional experience in the field of Meteorology, I am well equipped with a variety of skills and ideals that will be beneficial to any job.
Work EthicI learned at an early age that if I wanted to achieve my goals I needed to work hard. I have always put everything I could into any project or assignment I was doing. I made sure to do my work in a way that I was proud of and could take pride in. Everything I have done, despite how minor, I have put 110% into and it has always seemed to pay off. Although my GPR is not the highest it possibly could be, I have managed to maintain a decent GPR while also working. I was employed at the local movie theater for four years, where I worked at least 40 hours a week. I know am a student worker on campus for the Computer Science and Engineering Department. In addition to being a student worker, I am also a student researcher in the lab of Dr. Don Collins, where our main focus is particulate growth within clouds. Juggling school and a job has not always been easy, but it has taught me that hard work is key and pays off. Not only do I put 110% into everything I do, I pride myself in being dependable. I want to ensure that others can depend on me for anything they may need. I am sure to always arrive on time to work and class, I always have my group work completed on time, and ensure it is completed to the best of my ability.

Communication SkillsIn just about any occupation, communication is vital to success. Throughout my academic career I have had a lot of practice perfecting my communication skills. Throughout my time spent in college I have taken two Technical Writing courses that specialized in how to communicate effectively. Both courses have equipped me with communication skills that will be very handy when I get into the professional world. I have also taken a Public Speaking course, which helped me to fine tune public speaking skills in a variety of environments, from casual to professional. Not only have I learned to communicate effectively and professionally, but I have also learned to communicate effectively with peers while doing collaborative assignments and projects. Texas A&M is quiet diverse and offers different kinds of collaboration opportunities. Some collaboration requires overcoming barriers, like time differences, when collaborating with people in a distance education course that were doing study abroad oversees. Some collaboration simply had to be done online through different group boards and Skype in order to deal with conflicting schedules. In the real world the need to collaborate with others is necessary for most occupations, and often times collaboration means working with others that are not just in the room with you, but possibly around the world. I have been able to work on these communication and collaboration skills my entire academic career, which I feel will be extremely beneficial to me in the professional job force.

Leadership SkillsLeadership skills are good to have no matter what you are hoping to achieve in life. For me, I would love to hold a leadership position sometime down the road. Over the years I have worked to develop leadership skills. Both of my parents are elementary teachers, and I grew up watching them be leaders and role models to their students. After watching them for years, I knew the importance of being a leader, not just to children but to your peers. While employed at the movie theater I eventually was promoted to the position of Chief of Staff, which was responsible for leading the shift crew, delegating tasks, and taking inventory. While holding that position at the movie theater, I learned a lot about leadership and working with a group of people in a way to make sure tasks were done, and done effectively and efficiently. I was extremely involved in high school, like holding the position of NHS President and Key Club Secretary, but since I entered college I have been extremely busy with my schoolwork and working, so I have not joined many organizations. I was a member of AICHE, the Chemical Engineering Society and I am currently an AMS Student Member. I have also routinely been a tutor for elementary children.
